Defensive Pistol – 3rd Sunday (approximately) March through November
This discipline includes USPSA-type stages, IDPA-type stages and general defensive scenarios. This is not a sanctioned event where your scores are recorded and submitted to USPSA or IDPA. Safe gun handling from the holster is the primary practice with simulated real-life defensive challenges. Entry fees are currently $10 per shooter for club members and $15 for non-members. The Discipline Director (typically also the Range Officer or ‘RO’) has one shooter at a time load and shoot the course of fire with a timer. New shooters are carefully guided through all safety aspects and during the course of fire by the RO. This is not a training environment. Directions by the RO are to ensure safety compliance. If you are new to this type of shooting, arrive early and meet with the Discipline Director. They will be happy to answer your questions.
Pistols and Revolvers are both allowed. Typical and standard holsters are required but cross-draw holsters including shoulder rigs are prohibited. The caliber of the gun must be 9mm through .45. Reloads, standard factory and defensive ammunition are acceptable.
Should there be a course of fire that includes shotgun and/or rifle, the firearms and ammunition will be provided as well as instruction on the use of the particular weapon as needed.
The usual start time is 9:00AM but this can change due to weather or other factors. Ask the Discipline Director to get you on the email distribution and they will notify you a few days before the scheduled match with any adjustments to the start time.
Plan to get there early to help set up the stages and to stay to put things away.
